“We met on Tinder! We’re not ashamed anymore! 🙂 We had zero mutual friends and never went out to the same places, so we really feel that without Tinder, we never would have met. We got engaged on Mount Bonnell in Austin, Texas! I really wanted to move to Austin, but put the plans on hold when I moved back to Buffalo. In September of 2016, while visiting Austin on our first day there, Nathan took me on a hike and popped the question over boxed wine watching the sunset. We went on a moonlight boat cruise right after. It was amazing.

“Our wedding was a bit non-traditional in that we actually got married in a church on the Thursday before our “wedding day”. It was super important to our parents so we just did a very simple ceremony with only close family and a few friends. We then had a small champagne toast with cake sort of reception at my parents house. It really gave us a day to be in love without any chaos. Then on Saturday, the “wedding day,” we did a blessing outside. A fun element of our reception was when we did a football toss from me to my husband for our introduction since we both played and love football!”

“I tried to stay off wedding sites and Pinterest, and really focus on what I love. I love nature and hate glitz, glam and structure, so my wedding really was a reflection of my true style and our love. We kept everything simple. The wedding party and guests could wear whatever they wanted. Myself and my bridal party were all barefoot – something I had dreamt of being able to do! We wanted everything to just feel like a big dinner party and not a structured event, so we kept everyone at Knox for the ceremony then cocktail hour then reception to keep things flowing. We didn’t do a lot of the wedding things like garter toss because we didn’t want to pause for anything! We just wanted to dance with everyone all night!”

“Some ways in which we made our wedding truly “us” were our save the dates, which were our pee-wee football photos! Almost everything was handmade, including the bridesmaid flower clips, pocket squares (I even hand sewed my husband’s pocket square using fabric from his grandmother’s and mother’s wedding gown), and decorations. A good friend hand calligraphed the place cards, which were placed in the holders my mother made. I also hosted a crafting day where my bridesmaids all got together and made dream catchers to hang in the trees. A couple of the most special handmade items were the gorgeous arbor my father made, and a beautiful wooden bar that was made by a good friend and served as our guest book!  As favors we offered vintage glassware that we had been collecting for months before the wedding, and passed out match boxes and “tinder” as our favor. Get it… Tinder…?!”

“It’s tough to pinpoint my favorite moments from the wedding day, but I loved getting ready with all of my closest friends, professing my love in front of all of the people I love, getting married barefoot, having an outdoor dance floor, escaping with my husband to do an intimate photoshoot, and watching everyone dance the night away!”

“Nathan and I have an indescribable bond that we share which people have say they notice almost instantly. My husband is my other half and I am so happy and blessed to have him in my life. In a time of so much hurt and pain in the world, it’s wonderful to look to your close family, friends and partner and think about how lucky you are to have strong love in your life. It’s rare! And I think in regards to expressing that in our wedding, we just did what we want to do and what we loved and didn’t let anyone tell us how to do things. It’s so easy to get obsessed with trends and Instagram photos that you forget WHY you’re doing all of this in the first place. Love. I could not be happier about how everything turned out.”
