Real WNY Love Story: A Sweet and Rustic Orchard Wedding

dsc_3469

Seth and I attended the same high school, but never met until over 15 years after we both graduated. After many failed attempts, we were introduced by my cousin (maid of honor) and his brother (best man) who are friends. She brought me to a Memorial Day picnic at Seth’s parents’ house. Being as shy as he is, I didn’t think Seth would ever talk to me, but he finally did! Seth proposed on his birthday in December. We were at home sitting next to the Christmas tree. I had just given him his birthday gift and he said that the only gift he really wanted was for me to be his wife!

We now have a home in Churchville, where we both grew up. I was raised in the St. Vincent De Paul parish, so it was very meaningful for us to be married in that same church. The reception was a difficult choice, with so many beautiful options in Rochester, but we decided on Hurd Orchards in Holley and it was the perfect pick! Hurd’s defines rustic elegance, which is exactly what we wanted – a little country with some upscale touches. Their flower arrangements and food are out of this world and the barn setting is stunning. Hurd’s does almost everything; I added just a few things like family wedding photos from each generation and local honey as a favor. We served margaritas in mason jars as our “signature drink”, the certainly were a hit on a 100 degree day! I wanted our wedding to be one of a kind and to incorporate our VERY different personalities. Seth is a laid-back, quiet, country boy. I am a talkative, A-type personality who LOVES to shop! I would like to think that all of our wedding was unique, at least to us. However, the most distinctive aspects were probably the locations. St. Vincent de Paul is a small little church in a rural town in Western NY that I’m sure most people have never even heard of. And not many people have their wedding reception on an actual fruit and flower farm! Hurd Orchards is very special. Also, we drove Seth’s brother’s classic 1970 Chevy Nova from the church to the reception. It fit the theme of the day perfectly, and was so much fun! Our wedding was an amazing mix of our personalities and I like to think was different than anything anyone had done before. It perfectly showcased our love of our hometown, our family and friends and each other. Everything from the quaint little church in a small village, the rustic barn at a working fruit orchard, delicious homemade food and locally grown flowers and favors reflected our values and beliefs. Most of all, we wanted all of our friends and family to feel the love, to relax, to have fun and enjoy themselves! We hope we accomplished this. We are just so happy to have found each other and to spend the rest of our lives together!
