Real WNY Love Story: Ruth and Zach’s Quaint Rochester Summer Wedding on the Erie Canal

Ruth and Zach met at a popular urban art festival (Park Avenue Festival) in Rochester, New York. Neither of them expected to be in New York at the time but somehow they ended up at the same booth looking at Japanese bonsai trees. After growing up in Texas and completing medical school in Dallas, Zach now works as a resident physician specializing in radiology. Ruth is an Army veteran of the Afghanistan War and works in public relations for the Veterans Health Administration. Each of them was impressed with the others’ resume and the immediate attraction between the two. After dating two years, Zach surprised Ruth with a ring on Algonquin peak in the Adirondack mountains at 5114 feet above sea level. Needless to say, Ruth was too exhausted to say no!

With the help of their good friend and wedding planner, Austyn Simmons, they were able to craft the celebration of their dreams on a warm summer day in July. Ruth and Zach held their ceremony and reception at Del Monte Lodge, a boutique hotel situated on the Erie Canal in the charming suburb of Pittsford, Rochester.

The cermomy was an intimate gathering, as the couple married in front of 60 of their closest friends and family. A string quartet played elegant classical music during the ceremony and during cocktail hour. Guests were able to take a walk along the historic Erie Canal and enjoy its tranquility throughout the evening. Due to Ruth’s love of all things pink, the couple blended shades of bubblegum pink and bright fuchsia into their décor that made the event sweet and cheerful. The reception kicked off with a three-course meal served with wine and a champagne toast. Western and Chinese cultural elements were added throughout the celebration which created the perfect touch to their perfect day.
